GENSIM Test Set
- GENERATOR SIMULATOR FOR EXCITATION SYSTEM TESTING
Larger View
A microprocessor based Excitation System
test set intended for use on all modern excitation systems &
voltage regulators, both analog and digital.
The GENSIM® test set is designed for set-up calibration,
maintenance testing, and troubleshooting. This equipment will
simulate generator and exciter operation in order to safely perform a
complete test of the excitation system & voltage regulator and related protective
devices, while the Turbine-Generator is shut down.
Set-up your Excitation Systems to provide
the maximum amount of VARS that the Generator can safely
provide in order to support the power system needs and interconnection
requirements.
Comply with NERC and WECC excitation system voltage
regulator reliability standards requirements.
- All components are contained within one
- portable case, 13" tall 15" wide 11.5"
deep,
- weighing approximately 40 pounds

APPLICATIONS:
- Use prior to start-up of a new or
overhauled excitation system in order to eliminate many
hours of costly and risky test operation at full speed, no
load.
- Use during periodic maintenance
outages in order to verify that the excitation system
protective devices are set correctly and functioning
properly. The protective devices are utilized to prevent
the generator field from overheating; prevent the
generator stator core from experiencing excessive flux
& end iron heating damage; and to prevent the machine
from losing synchronization with the power system.
- Use for troubleshooting an excitation
system in order to locate the problem without operating
the machine and exposing the generator to a potentially
damaging over-excitation incident.
- Use for checkout of auto
synchronizers. By utilizing one phase of the simulated PT
voltage for the generator PT input to the synchronizer
and a fixed voltage (i.e. 120 volt 60 Hz from a wall
outlet) for the running system PT input to the
synchronizer.
- Use the 3-phase variable voltage and
frequency for checkout and calibration of volts per hertz
protective relaying.
- Use the GENSIM outputs
for checkout and calibration of various Watt/Var
transducers and metering.
FEATURES:
- Requires only a single-phase 85-264
volts AC 50-60 Hz power source.
- The 3-phase output voltage is regulated
and balanced to simulate the generator PT's.
- The 3-phase output voltage amplitude
and frequency are adjustable from 0 to 175 volts AC
and from 40 to 72 Hz.
- Single-phase current output of 0 to 7
amps is standard. Three phase current output available as
an optional feature.
- The phase angle relationship between
the simulated generator voltage and current is variable
over the entire generator operating range.
- An adjustable millivolt output of 0 to
200 mv. for shunt simulation with a 10mv. stepping
function and external metering sensing.
- Three event timers with a resolution
of 0.1 second.
- The event timers can be triggered
three different ways:
- Start/Stop push-button
- Millivolt on/timer start push-button
- External contact NC. or NO. (dry or wet with auto
sensing)
- A DC voltage source of 0-600 volts to simulate
exciter output.
- Digital LED readouts for all outputs.
- Complete set of test leads included.
- The test set is calibrated with a
microprocessor software method. No hardware adjustments
required.
